I bought a new computer with Windows 8 preloaded, and really like the way it works, but when I first set up the computer as administrator, I by-passed the prompt to set up a hotmail e-mail account, thinking I could do this later.
Do I have to create this e-mail account to be able to download apps from the App Store? If so, what do I do to get it done?

Yes you need a Microsoft account to be able to download apps from the Store. If you have ever used Hotmail, Windows Live, Xbox Live, Windows Messenger then you already have a Microsoft account and can use that information.

To begin with press the WindowsKey+I to bring up the settings pane and click Change PC Settings at the bottom.
Then click Users
You should see a "Switch to a Microsoft account" button underneath your username.
You'll be asked to confirm your current password, if you didn't create one just hit enter.

If you have an account already you can put in the address here, if not at the bottom you should see a "Sign up for a new email address" link so click that and create an account.

Once you have created the Microsoft account and set it up in Windows, that email address and password will become your new login info for Windows.
