Solved Windows 8 Password

I haven't used win 8 since i installed it last month and I can't remember my password. What should I do short of re install? I have a dual boot with win 7.

I would recommend to write down you passwords and keep them somewhere safe for when you need them like now to avoid a reinstall.

So your saying I will have to re install? In win 7 i have a text file to most of my passwords...just dropped the ball on this one..

You could try resetting the password using this.

Thanks..I'll give your suggestion a trial.

Tried using the win 8 install disc and everything seem to go as directed, however when instructions said reboot and a command prompt would come up, didn't happen.

Can i edit the win 8 registry in win7?

OK got to the command prompt with the win 8 install disc...navigated to the windows\system32 directory and typed my username after net user then a space and my user name Sparhawk then a space my new password. I get can't find user.

it looked like this net user Sparhawk rkvkfkr

Guessed my password and got in. Would like to get the method you gave to me to work though...thanks

Edit: Got the message welcome and the spinning circle for a few seconds then got wrong password again.

Sorry it took a reinstall. Be sure to write down your password.

Didn't enter a password...this time I'm the only one that uses it. When I get time I'll get a microsoft account and use a password then. printed those instructions in case I ever need them again. Thank you, you guys do a good service here.
