Microsoft Account vs Local Account & Desktop vs Laptop

I'm curious,

How many use a Microsoft Account to log in or use a local account?

If you use a Microsoft Account on your desktop, do you use the same Microsoft Account on your laptop?

I have upgraded my desktop but have not upgraded my laptop yet. Not sure of the pros and cons of using a Microsoft account vs local account and using the same on both a desktop and laptop.

Thanks

Thanks

yes it will sync few thing. NO problem if you have 2, 3, 10 PCs log with the same account at the same time

I've been setting up local accounts to sign into Windows itself, but using my Microsoft Accounts within individual apps (on a non-Admin local account).
I saw this article:

...which rather put me off using Microsoft Accounts as my main login. So by signing into Apps individually I seem to get quite a few of the benefits of a Microsoft Account but less risk of being locked out of my computer altogether.

Am I missing out on much?

Hi there
all well and good - but what happens if you DON'T have an internet connection at the time you need to log in.
Servers DO go down sometimes -- as well as people get disconnected for non payment of bills and a myriad of other reasons.

seriously -- by all means use a Microsoft account but AFTER you've logged on with a local account.

Even then why bother -- if you need music or media content you don't have to rely on having a Microsoft account to get it - and I'm not even THINKING about torrent sites.

I really don't care for more and more of this "cloud Cuckoo Land" stuff.

Cheers

That's how I do it, Jimbo, and for the reasons you mentioned. I only logon to my MS a/c if and when I need to. The rest of the time, I'm logged-on locally. Wenda.

Ok, wait, this is from April 2012.

2.)
Nine times out of 10 they've been careless with the password -- reusing their Hotmail password on other sites, for example, or typing it on a machine of dubious pedigree.

This is not a Hotmail issue. This is a user Issue.

As for the Cloud, I have accepted the fact that, that is the way the world is moving.
So as for me, it's a get on board or get left behind. (ie. You don't have to love it, but you should learn it, use it, understand it, so you know what you are really talking about when it comes to any issues.)

However, I do agree,, you should always create a local account first. Then if you want an MS account create that separately.
You don't actually need one, unless you want to take advantage of the things Win8 has to offer.

The Music app sniffs, "To get the most from this app, switch from your local account to a Microsoft account." You have to sign in to the Microsoft Store. SkyDrive asks for a sign-in -- photos, too

I also have to point out that this is wrong....

Photo's DOES NOT ask for a login to access your photos, unless they are on Skydrive.
Music DOES NOT ask for a login unless you want to shop or access something on line that requires it.
You can listen to locally stored music without having to login
