I cant seem to remove password requirement on login

    Hello,

I dont want to type my password in every time I login to my computer. I have googled how to remove this and every post seems to say the same thing:

    1. Launch command Prompt
    2. type netplwiz
    3. launch the netplwiz app
    4. Uncheck "User must enter username and password to use this computer"
    5. you will be prompted to confirm, with your current password.

However, this is not working for me! I am still prompted on startup for a password.

I do notice when I am in the "netplwiz" application that my username is in there twice. one time as an administrator and 1 time as a home user. I only seem to be able to highlight the administrator user and uncheck the box in step 4 above. I cant seem to highlight the other me.

    Any thoughts?

Hello xexers1, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check with the tutorial below to see if it may help any.

Are you sure that you are not dealing with require a password at wakeup instead of at startup?

Hi, I love windows 8 but HATE this password. I have 1) used netplz and turned off the password for start up AND 2) have gone into the power settings and disabled password on wakeup. But STILL my computer keeps going to the sleep screen after a few minutes and requires a password. I have tried every thing and spent tons of time trying to turn this dumb password off but still no success. if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. THANKS.

Hello Ted, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Have you also disabled password protection for screensaver if used?

Shawn, u r AWESOME! thanks so much as that was it!!!! Because Windows 8 is somewhat a hybrid operating system I never thought that the desktop side of things was the reason and that was exactly it! much appreciated!

After following the instructions in all 3 places mentioned in this thread, it is still requiring the password. These directions are very simple, so I know we're following them correctly, yet it won't work. This is more than frustrating. We just got our new computer yesterday, and Windows 8 is causing us to want to take it back already!

    Can anyone help?

Hello dblum, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Please give more details as to exactly after what action, event, etc... when it requires the password. This can better help us narrow down what may be the cause.

When we switch users, or initially turn on computer, it requires the password. Again, we've made the changes in the power options, screensaver (actually the checkbox in screensaver wasn't checked anyway) and in the netplwiz. Can't figure out what's going on; or more accurately, what's not going on!

    dblum,

This would be normal when you switch users, since that is basically locking the computer from the current account, then select another account to sign in as. You will always have a sign in screen for this unless the you select to sign into an user account without a password created for it.

When you turn on the computer (cold startup), unless you set Windows 8 to automatically sign in to an user account at startup, then this would be normal to have to sign in an startup since this is not from wakeup (sleep/hibernate) or resume from screen saver.
