Solved Can the display of the email address on the login screen be removed?

On the login screen, when I am logging in, Windows displays my email address underneath my name.

Is there a way to disable or hide that?

It's not the end of the world, but there are occasions where I would not want someone to see my email address.

Thanks!

I am also interested in the same thing, I spent hours within the system options and couldn't find anything to 'fix' this, anyone can help? Thanks.

I know, but it's not so nice to log-on in public places where someone could peek your e-mail address, I wish there was an option to hide it.

Go to PC Settings and switch to Local Account. Win 8 will use your username to log you into your PC instead of using Microsoft account..

I, too, had figured out that switching to a Local account was a "solution" but if you want the benefits of syncing and everything else that comes with using a Windows account, then it really is unacceptable.

In the end for me, I currently do not need those Windows account features but should things change in the future, I surely would still like to maintain my privacy and not have my email address displayed. Hopefully they add this option in the future.

Hello nuspieds,

Sorry for the late reply.

Option One in the tutorial below can show you how to change the name of your Microsoft account to what you like so that your email address doesn't show on the sign in/log on screen.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hi Brink, thanks for the post, your tutorial is just great! I was wondering if there is an option to use the Microsoft Account (to keep using the sync options online feature) without being 'forced' to have your account email shown in the logon process, since it exposes your PERSONAL e-mail while loading, which can be frustrating while in public spaces.
Thanks.
