I am speaking of the drive Win8 is installed on going bad and the registry is no longer available. According to what I read, the registry needs to be available with an entry telling "Refresh" where to find the image.

I'm not sure about that either, but it would make sense that the registry would still need to be readable.

If I use Win8 recovery, it says that 25gb need to be available and that is out of the question; it would be simpler to do a re-install. I think I will forget this and use the install disk.

Yes, it will need that much space and possible more depending on how large your Windows 8 installation is. A custom refresh image basically does the same thing as a system image but only with the Windows 8 installation.

This lets you restore it to how it was when the custom image was created. If you reinstall, then of course you'll be starting from scratch.

To me, it is simpler to clone the drive or partition like I am doing now. I was just looking for a simpler method and it does not seem to exist. thanks anyway Brink...

    Anytime.

Yeah, I find using a system image (first page here) or clone works best, but all are nice options to have available when needed.

Sorry for my question, maybe it's answered somewhere even I read all replies.

I installed Windows 8 last Sunday and Activated with my Key. now I have installed many programs (programs that I need to install of course).

Now I just want to Backup, that only include the system which will like the new system as when I install new Windows (without the programs I installed)
    Which Option is it?

    Thank you ;-)

You can use Option two in this tutorial, or make a custom refresh image.

    Failed Windows 7 File Recovery.

I was wondering if you could help me to solve my problem. My laptop is a Samsung NP550P5C-A08UK.I've been trying to do a backup to an external hard drive which shows 437.29GB free of465.76.It keeps failing at different stages but always shows Failed Error Code 0x81000033.I am using Windows 7 file recovery.I am trying to create a system image.I already have a backup on the HDD via Samsung Recovery so my HDD is not faulty.
