But this would only be used IF I couldnt get into Windows anymore, correct?
Otherwise, as long as I have access to Windows 8.1's Recovery menu (Refresh, Reset, Advanced), I only need the image and not the rescue media, correct?

Please confirm my understanding of both questions.

That's correct, but it would be good to have it handy.

Great one last question and I'll stop bugging you!
The rescue media (USB key) created in Macrium can be used for all of my Windows 8.1 computers, correct? (no need to create one rescue media per machine)

I'm afraid that I can't answer that since I don't use Macrium, but that would be a good question to ask in a new thread.

    Hi,

1)Is it possible to save the Recovery Image to a USB drive (64GB..) instead of and External HDD?

2)If not, is it possible to copy the Recovery image from a partition or External HDD to a USB drive and use the USB drive for restoring the image?

    3) Or copy the image from the USB drive (which was previously copied over form image partition/External HDD) back to the image partition on the internal HDD/or External HDD to restore from it?

    Hello Mourinho,

Q1) Sorry, but system images cannot be saved to a removable device like that. Maybe if it was a USB 3.0 flash drive that's certified for Windows to Go, but I haven't been able to test it. Plus, it would need to be at least the same size as the drives included in the system image.

Q2 & Q3) Sorry, but no again. Any attempts to move a saved system image will usually corrupt it and make it restorable. It just won't work on a USB flash drive though.

For what you are wanting, you might see if the free program Macrium Reflect may work best for this instead.

Just create the Macrium recovery environment & on reboot it appears & you choose it to boot from & use your usb image to restore your computer.

Thanks a lot . That was a super fast reply (from the admin itself). Are you like group of people under 1 name (Brink) or a bot or something? It is a serious question. Please Delete if inappropriate. I have 1 more question on USB recovery drive coming.

    Thanks!
