Hello Regebush, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what is happening with your .exe files? Please post back with more details about your issue with them.

In the mean time if you like, you could download and merge the .reg file for the listed .exe option in the tutorial on the first page of this thread. It will restore the default associations and registry entries for .exe files.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

Can you add WI file extension to your list of recoverable file associations?

Hello Stu, and welcome to Eight Forums.

The .wi file type does not have a default program set to it by default in Windows 8, so there are not any default registry entries.

If you like, I could create a .reg file that will unassociate .wi files to no longer have a default program set to open them with.

That would be great, I did wonder why the miss- association did not seem to cause any problem, but like it back to normal, I just like things that way, unfortunately I did not remove the tick from the box and the WI files now are associated with note pad.
Many thanks for such a speed reply. this seems a really interesting site that I stumbled across.

Here you go Stu. You would just need to follow the same steps in the tutorial after downloading the .reg below to unassociated .wi files.

I do not think you understand my concern. Can you please try clicking on the .exe link on the first page and you will see what I mean.
