Hello John, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Could you please provide more details on what problem you are having when you try to open drives?

If you mean the you get a program not associated type error, then you could download and merge the .reg file for the listed drive option to restore it's default associations and registry entries to hopefully fix this for you.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

I had the same issue on my Windows 8 (x64bit) desktop where .bat files were opening my text editor.
I tried all the fixes I could find on the internet but no luck. I was finally able to diagnose the problem by associating .bat files with a unique exe like "rumplestiltskin123.exe". Then I searched registry for all occurrences of "rumplestiltskin123".
It turns out I needed to remove the following roaming registry key which is not included in your downloadable reg files for each filetype.
This is the key that I needed to delete:-

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Roaming\OpenWith\FileExts\.bat\UserChoice]

Hello 8penguin, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like the .bat download in the tutorial does this for you if you should ever need to reset it's associations back to default again.

Thanks for the quick reply Brink! No I have already attempted to use the downloadable reg file for .bat from this thread Whilst it removes one of the .bat reg keys it doesnt removes the "roaming" key I mentioned in my previous post which is slightly different.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Roaming\OpenWith\FileExts\.bat\UserChoice

Only by removing this specific key was I able to fix the problem.

Odd. Did you restart the PC after merging the .reg file for .bat?

It should have changed that location as well after a restart.

    New "Links" Folder

I'd like to use the link (.lnk) but when I click on it it just goes to the main forum page on this website.
The problem I'm having is that I can't put anything in my "favorites" folder in windows explorer. I learned this is because I need to recreate a new "links" folder for the shortcuts to go in, but I don't know how to do that - is that what this is? Will this help solve my problem?

Hello Ginger, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Sorry about that. The link has been updated.

However, that's not going to help with your issue in your post below.

Create New "Links" Folder for Favorites, Windows Explorer
