Hello Riscie, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, using the Windows 7 .reg downloads below for image files would be safe to merge in Windows 8.1 for this.

    Hey Brink!

Thank you for that information! Unfortunately importing these registry-values did not do the trick for me. Windows 8.1 still try's to open the files with the modern-ui image viewer in full-screen. It's somewhat frustrating that there does not seem to be a GPO which lets me set default programs like I can set them as a user. Do you maybe have another Idea where the problem could be?

    Thanks again!
    Riscie

Ok, I found a solution to my problem: For anybody who has that same problem: Here is how to do it: Windows 8: Associate a file Type or protocol with a specific app using GPO (e.g:default mail client for MailTo protocol) - Behind Windows Setup & Deployment - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

    Generally:
    - Set all File-Associations on one of your (test) clients
    - Use Powershell to Export the Associations to an xml-file
    - Use the new Win 8.1 GPO "Computer configuration\administrative templates\Windows Components\File Explorer\ Set a default associations configuration file" to register the xml for any computer.

    Thanks again Brink!

Thank you it solve half my problem with right click context menu for folders and folder's shortcuts. The other half, files, programs and their shortcuts still not solved and I don't know which one will solve it.
When using the right click on them the win explorer will restart and all opened folders closed.
    Kindly advise, appreciated.

Hello Jamal, and welcome to Eight Forums.

See if downloading and merging the .reg files for the listed .exe and .lnk (LNK) options in the table may be able to help.

If you did not do this by mistake, then I would recommend to do a full scan of your system with an AV program to make sure it's clean.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

    Hi,
    Thank you for quick response.
I tried that but non worked and scanning (Using AVG) shows no threats of any kind. If you have another solution it's appreciated.

You could see if doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened may be able to undo and fix it for you.

Unfortunately, system restore point is not available but thank you for your effort and assistance. I hope to find it sometime in near future.
Once more thank you very much.

In that case, you might see if troubleshooting with a clean startup may be able to ID a cause of this issue.
