How to Open each Folder in the Same or Own Separate New Window in Windows 8

information   Information
This tutorial will show you how to have each folder or drive temporarily or always open in the same or its own separate new Windows Explorer window in Windows 8.

Note   Note
If you are stuck with a new window when you open a folder even after setting it to open in the same window, then:

1) Open an elevated command prompt.

2) Copy and paste the command below one at a time in the command prompt, and press Enter after each command.
regsvr32 "%SystemRoot%\System32\actxprxy.dll"
regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\ieproxy.dll"

3) Restart computer to apply.

OPTION ONE

To Open Folders in the Same or New Window using Context Menu

NOTE: This option will only temporarily open the selected folder(s) and/or drive(s) this way for just this one time only.
1. In Windows Explorer, select (highlight) one or more folders or drives, and right click or press and hold on them.
2. Do step 3 or 4 below for what you would like to do.
3. To Open the Folder in the Same Window
A) Click/tap on Open. (see screenshot below step 4)
NOTE: By default, you can also just double click/tap on the folder or drive to open it in the same window if you set Folder Options using step 2 of OPTION THREE below.
4. To Open the Folder in its Own Separate New Window
A) Click/tap on Open in new window. (see screenshot above)
NOTE: By default, you can also just double click/tap on the folder or drive to open it in a new window if you set Folder Options using step 3 of OPTION THREE below.

OPTION THREE

To Open Folders in the Same or New Window in Folder Options

NOTE: This option will only always open the selected folder(s) and/or drive(s) from the main pane in Windows Explorer this way by default unless you use OPTION ONE or OPTION TWO above to open them instead.
1. Open Folder Options, then do step 2 or 3 below for what you would like to do.
Folder_Options.jpg
2. To Always Open each Folder in the Same Window
NOTE: This is the default setting.
A) In the General tab, select (dot) Open each folder in the same window, and click/tap on OK. (See screenshot above)
3. To Always Open each Folder in it's Own Window
NOTE: This also sets Open in the context menu (OPTION ONE) to behave the same as the Open in new window context menu item.
A) In the General tab, select (dot) Open each folder in its own window, and click on OK. (see screenshot above)

That's it,
Shawn

It may be the toolbar causing the issue. As a test, temporarily disable the toolbar in IE to see if IE still opens like this.

On occasion I amaze myself. Solved the problem. Just by luck of course. When it opened in that small screen. I placed the mouse, double arrow at the top of the frame and expanded it by moving the arrow up, like a photo. So, the next time I clicked on open in a new window it had remained at the size I adjusted it to previously. Apparently doing that you can set you open in a new window to what ever size you want.

Ah, I misunderstood your issue.

Yep, the window should open the same way as it was last closed when not maximized.
