Pressing "esc" while it's attempting to restart doesn't work? I thought it did.

hmm....I tried the download, and two manual setup attempts, but the new "abort" button does nothing. I believe I followed all the steps each time, but I'm just getting shut down when I try to test it. I'm on 8.1, does that make a difference? I'm also shutting down from a shortcut using shutdown.exe -s (which I found instructions for on the 'net and can't seem to find them again). Any other info I can provide to help?

A HA - that was the ticket! I also learned that when the standard message comes up saying something like "shutting down in nn time" with a button to click CLOSE, I needed to Close that message for my Abort button to work .... but work it does, yea!!

Thank you Brink for these awesome tutorials! I am wondering if there is a "key" to the letters you use in the shortcut creation?
Something like " -a: abort, -t: time until executed" etc.
I'm trying to remember what the terminology is for this, but it has been a decade or so since I have played with this kind of thing. :p

Hello Ginger, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm glad they could help. You could type the command below in a command prompt and press Enter to see all of the available switches and descriptions for the Shutdown command.

shutdown /?

Hope this helps, :)
