How to Generate and View a System Performance Report in Windows

A System Performance Report details the status of local hardware resources, system response times, and processes on the local computer. You can use this information to identify possible causes of performance issues.

This tutorial will show you how to view and generate a system performance report in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do the steps in this tutorial.





OPTION ONE

To Generate a System Performance Report in Windows


1. Press the :winkey: + R keys to open the Run dialog, type perfmon, and click/tap on OK.​
2. If prompted by UAC, click/tap on Yes (Windows 7/8) or Continue (Vista).​
3. In the left pane of Performance Monitor, click/tap on Data Collector Sets to expand it, click/tap on System to expand it, right click on System Performance, and click on Start. (see screenshot below)​
4. It will collect data for 60 seconds before the system performance report will be ready to view in step 3 of OPTION TWO below.​

OPTION TWO

To View System Performance Reports in Windows


1. Press the :winkey: + R keys to open the Run dialog, type perfmon, and click/tap on OK.​
2. If prompted by UAC, click/tap on Yes (Windows 7/8) or Continue (Vista).​
3. In the left pane of Performance Monitor, click/tap on Reports to expand it, click/tap on System to expand it, click/tap on System Performance to expand it, and click/tap on a listed dated report (ex: BRINK-PC_20140817-000002) that you want to view. (see screenshot below)​
Tip   Tip
If you like, you can delete a system performance report by right clicking on a listed report, click on Delete, and click on Yes to confirm.
