Hello Redheat, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Other than in the registry using Option Three, you could do so with a 3rd party program like CCleaner in Option Four.

    Hope this helps some,
    Shawn

Hiyya Shawn I don't know why but my 8.1 Startup tab shows a bit differently to the one in the tutorial. Sorry still will not attach but I only have five tabs and the Startup tab just refers me to task manager. The best option for me is the CCleaner one as I find the task manager way just really inconvenient. Frankly I cannot see why the old 7 way was dropped.

    Hey John,

You got the image uploaded in your post, but just missed attaching it afterwards like in steps 10 and 11 in Option Two below.
Yeah, startup items was moved to Task Manager now instead of msconfig. That's what's different in your screenshot. Since Task Manager is what is used to manage all running processes, I suppose that it makes sense to have running startup items there as well.

Task Scheduler Configuration Tool - chtasks.exe

    Hi

In my Admin account, the following Startup program is displayed in WINPATROL but not in CCLEANER or Autoruns

    * Task Scheduler Configuration Tool (Title) , rundll32.exe schtasks.exe (Command) ,Microsoft (Company) , START_FOLDER (Type)"

In my USER account however, Winpatrol state that "File Does Not Exist". It's not possible to disable it. When I use Winpatrol to try to delete it, it's only being reinstalled in the same way (without Title , command or company information).

Comparing Admin & User Startup programs, I can see it has to be schtasks.exe
I have not been able to locate "schtasks.exe " in neither option 1,2,3 or 4 described in this Toturial ....

    I have run Malwarebyte, S&D, Avast ... "system clean" .... what's wrong ?

    Hello Skifer,

"schtasks.exe" would be for your scheduled tasks in Task Scheduler. It's nothing to worry about since it all system tasks by default.

    Thanks Shawn good to hear

Ref option 4, using CCLEANER (... i have used this program for several years myself .. :-)

Have you ever come across CCLEANER reporting duplicated programs (not "Startup", but under "Uninstall") ?

    Background :
I just bought a new computer, and at some point in "tweakin" the system i noticed that many of the Acer (OEM) programs was shown as dulpicated in CCLEANER (one with size the other one without any size) ..... ?
The programs was not shown as "duplicated" in any other programs ....

I couldn't help myself, so I tried to unistall the most of the "dulpicated" Acer (OEM) programs , within CCLEANER .... and YES both of them vanished ..... (should have used a "proper" unistall programs ....)

I have backup, so not a big issue, however .. haven't seen "duplicated" programs before ...

I haven't, but check to see if the program is duplicated in "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel as well.
