    Great news modemman.

Usually your touchpad will have an option to remove it's notification area icon without disabling the program like below. Mine was in "Mouse" properties from the Control Panel (icons view).

    Hmm, forgot about that.

But on a side note, turns out that disabling all the other programs that started at startup also fixed another issue that I've been having, where I couldn't set the PC to Hibernate automatically after a set period of idle time (the setting just kept reverting to 0 minutes). Not sure if it was either of the programs I mentioned earlier or another one, as I wasn't really thinking about that when disabling all the programs.

That's good news. If you like, you could enable them one at a time to test inbetween to see which one was resetting the idle time to 0.

Windows 8 really hides start up programs good, too good! I installed a beta program called Corsair Link that I know has problems but I can work around them. What I did not want happening is for part of this program to start automatically every time I boot the system. The Task manager show the Corsair Kink Hardware Monitor as running and I want to stop it form starting up without uninstalling the Corsair Link software. I have looked in all the usual places, used all your good suggestions above and even used CCleaner without any luck in finding how it starts up. I know it starts up because of the error in the Event Viewer and the process in the Task Manager.

Any other suggestions on how to stop this program from starting? I think I am left with renaming the file or uninstalling and wait until Corsair gets the bugs out.

    Hello Alkaufmann,

If you haven't already, check the registry locations in OPTION THREE to see if one of them may be for the program. In addition, check the settings in the program itself to see if it may have an option to turn on/off starting at startup.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn

Thanks for the suggestions but I had checked the registry and program itself is not set up to start with Windows. The only thing I can think of is that some third party application that does start with Windows is starting up this Corsair Link Hardware Monitor.

I just had a thought, the Corsair hardware is connected to a USB port and maybe Windows starts it up because of that?

Yeah, it would most likely be from a driver then.

Its wierd, suddenly STEAM, ORIGIN and PCMeter are loading at startup and I cant find them anywhere, through all 4 steps. The programs have the BOOT AT STARTUP option, UNCHECKED. yet, they all keep starting at boot.

*** Uninstalled PCMeter, but really dont want to remove steam and origin.
