I don't think Kies would be it since it's already listed. Personally, I would leave it disabled until you are able to ID it since you are not having any issues with it disabled.

just for giggles i installed Kies air message and went into sysinternals autoruns and it showed up in there as there this time. i then went into task manager startup and low and behold the Program entry was changed to kies air message. how wired is that i wonder if maybe it just did nto install properly or some thing.

So, I've tried all the methods in the opening post and still have programs that I'm not able to find out how they are launching. I've even used spybot in addition to ccleaner and the startup lists are still coming up empty. I've even looked through services.msc to see if the programs are opening as services, and they are not, and Task Scheduler to see if there was a task set to run at startup or something and simply cannot find how these programs are starting up. Any other ideas as to how these programs are opening? I'd rather not have to completely uninstall the apps because I do use them sometimes. And no, the programs do not have an option in the program itself to start at startup that I can turn off either.

Hello modemman, and welcome to Eight Forums.

What specific programs are your trying to stop from running at startup and/or sign in?

    There's two.

    modemman,

In addition, check in Task Manager to see what the "process" name for those items are, then check using CCleaner (Option Four) or the registry (Option Three) to see if you may spot them.

Seems like the Dell program may have fixed itself, it just took a few days/several reboots for the disabled service to take effect or something because I don't see it anymore.

The Intel program is RapidStartConfig.exe. If I kill the process in Task Manager, the tray icon disappears. There's also a service that's called the same, but disabling it doesn't seem to do anything as the icon is still in my tray.

As I've said I've tried all the methods in the original post and none of them seem to work.

The Intel item would be from installing the Intel AHCI/SATA/RAID driver for your motherboard. It would be recommended to let that run at startup anyways.

It came preloaded on my PC. Reading what it does on the internet though it seems like it just helps wake the computer faster from sleep, and I don't really use sleep, I either turn it off or Hibernate. And with Windows 8, an SSD HDD, and 8 GB RAM, it already boots up in less than 2 seconds anyway.

BUT, I did finally find how to turn it off. Turns out there was a scheduled task that I previously overlooked, in the root of the scheduled task folder in Computer Management, and disabling that stops the tray icon from appearing.

FYI, the service for the Dell program was called SoftThinks Agent Service.

So now the only non-Windows System tray icons are the one for my touchpad (I can disable that too but then I have no right click, so it's needed), VNC, and my antivirus.

    Thanks anyway!
