Yes but when I hit f9 and I select recover from a saved date it tells me the hard drive that the recovery is installed is locked. Then when I try factory restore it tells me unable to reset pc. A required partition is missing.

Check to see if you still have the "Recovery" partition like below, and see if you are able to create recovery media as outlined by Asus below.

That sounds correct. Are you able to create a recovery DVD using the method with AI Recovery Burner in the link above?

If so, you may be able to boot from it instead to use to do a factory recovery with.

I don't think my model came with the AI recovery. I searches for it but found nothing.

Odd, the article at Asus says it's for the K55A model. You might check to see if it may be on your Apps screen.

How about using Method One in the link with F9 and the Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions option?

I don't see that option at all after hitting f9. Getting closer to just putting 7 on the hdd and being done with it,

just wondering about this USB recovery thing.......

So tonight I had to recover my system due to some IRQL less than equal error I just couldn't get fixed, I have other image backups but decided to test this 8.1 USB recovery stick and recover the windows image made in file history.

So OK it worked fine, recovered the last image I made a few days ago.

When I was done I wanted to see if i could re make the USB recovery drive, I inserted the USB drive and clicked the recovery in file history, clicked create the recovery media, since i do not have a recovery partition, the block was gray that wanted that, so I went and clicked next.

When I did it came back saying it could not create the thing cause some files are missing???

OK so I went back to windows/system32/recovery and just copied the files on the USB to that folder, I assumed that those were the files that it couldn't find, well that didn't do anything, it still gave me the same answer.

Soo is this USB recovery stick only made on a one time basis?? Seems weird if so cause what if you loose the one you have made?

In my case as I said I also make image's using 3 other image programs so its not that big a deal, but for those that ONLY use the windows recovery system it might be.

    Hello Hoody,

It sounds like you may have selected the option to delete the recovery partition (warning at step 5) the first time you created the recovery drive.

If you created a system image before doing this, then you could restore the system image to also restore the recovery partition.

    hy

well I don't think you got what I meant, I don't need/want the recovery partition, it was for W7 hp, I now have 8.1.1 so the recovery partition is useless.

What I was asking was about the USB boot stick, I made mine, and as i said i just had a chance to try it out after a long time just sitting there ( which is good ). After I used it i was just curious if it needed to be updated since w8, so I clicked the recovery item and did the usual selecting to make the USB recovery again. Yes I knew the check box would be unavailable since i no longer had the recovery partition, BUT I figured windows would still be able to at least make or update another USB recovery stick.

So that was my question, has anyone tried to make a second USB recovery stick after making the first one and was able to do it?
