How to Power Off and On Windows Phone 8 and 8.1
Information
If your Windows Phone stops working or responding in the way you're used to, you can quickly restart it to hopefully get back on track. You can restart your phone by powering it off, and turning it back on afterwards.
You may also want to turn off your Windows phone as needed. For example, before entering a court room.
This tutorial will show you how to completely turn off and turn back on your Windows Phone 8 or 8.1 phone.

OPTION TWO
To Power On Windows Phone 8 and 8.1
1. Press and hold on the Power button until the phone vibrates once. (see screenshot below)
2. The phone will now restart and turn on.
Note
If this doesn’t work to turn on your phone, try one of the following options:
Note
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time until you feel a vibration (about 10–15 seconds). Your phone will restart automatically.
Note
- Sometimes your phone will vibrate right away when you press the Volume Down button and Power button buttons—this is probably due to your ringer changing to Vibrate. Wait to release the buttons until a second vibration after 10–15 seconds.
- If you don't let go of the Volume Down button and Power button buttons right after the vibration at 10–15 seconds, your phone may show a black startup screen and not restart normally. If this happens, just repeat the button combo to try again.
- Not all phones support the ability to restart your phone this way, so check with your phone's manufacturer to find out how to force a restart.
- If your phone has a replaceable battery, remove and reinsert the battery located under your phone’s back panel. Press the Power button to turn on your phone again.
That's it,
Shawn
