    Hi Kari,

Nice tutorial here. I especially like that it shows the supported way :) I hope you don't mind a few observations.

    1. You've got a good warning about ProgramData, but it doesn't mention that it messes up servicing, so it may cause issues with updates and service packs.

    2. Despite the warning text, the rest of the tutorial keeps mentioning ProgramData throughout except for the answer file. That's why people keep doing it :) If you drop the reference, that will probably stop.

    3. Copying the unattend file is kind of awkward because of the notes. You can make two examples (one per arch) and use
<!-- comments --> for the rest. That will reduce error rate.

Finally, there's a shortcut that entirely eliminates the whole audit mode with sysprep thing and speeds things up :) In short:
    1. Save the Unattend.xml file on the drive to which you want to move profiles.
    2. Start install, format the system drive to be.
    3. Open cmd (Shift+10), type notepad.
    4. Open the Unattend.xml in Notepad. While doing this, take a note of the drive letter, then use in the path to the profile dir.
    5. Save the file to the system drive root and proceed with the install.

Here's the video of the installation process. The actual move takes around 35 seconds ;)

    That's it :)

Start Screen and Desktop should be almost empty in Audit Mode, as well as All Apps. They should look like this:
My start screen is completely empty!
I don't even have the possibility to enter the desktop!

Please tell as much as possible about the situation. Fresh install, no user accounts set up or an old installation with existing accounts, how do you enter Audit Mode, everything possible you can tell.

I Have you bought the Windows 8 DVD or ISO and if where, or did it come pre-installed on a PC?

Can you enter Desktop from system menu (Win + X)?

Hi Toinou49, welcome to the Eight Forums.

You must have the windows 8 install media which includes install.wim file, or at least the install.wim file itself in order to use sysprep as mentioned several times in this thread. See for instance this post.

Kari I get the following message Click image for larger version at the point when I try to:

Now type the following and press Enter (notice the name and path of the script we created above, change it if needed. I saved answer file on E so the path is E:\relocate.xml):
    Code:
    Sysprep.exe /audit /reboot /unattend:E:\relocate.xml

    fresh install, windows 8, C:=SSD D:=HDD

Hi Wd09, welcome to the Eight Forums.

If you type sysprep.exe /? or sysprep.exe /help, OR if you have parameters written wrong after the first slash (/) you get this:

    Name: SystemPreparationTool.png
Views: 529
Size: 7.5 KB

This simply means that you have made a typing error. That dialog window is not possible if the command is written correctly. Check your command syntax (spelling) and try again.
