    HELPPPPPPP

So I have a HP envy laptop, which I think is currently running on windows 8. I have several issues.

Firstly, I wanted to change that awful rainbow background/ default lock screen, so I tried your way, followed all your steps (the manual guide)
and after I added the picture that I wanted and changed all the names and stuff, a light blue screen came up on
both that lock screen and the normal lock screen. i cant change either of them from this. i tried to change the normal
lock screen to a picture however it didn't work??? so i decided to undo all of the steps manually and they are both still
blue and i cant change them, let alone the one that we can change in PC settings!! WHAT DO I DO??

Secondly, im not sure that you will know about this but its worth a shot. i have been trying to check for updates on my laptop (to 8.1 as i know it is out) but it says "there was a problem checking for updates". i have been trying since December 2014 (Christmas). all times i have been connected to the internet. i then take it a step further, and "get more info" on the Microsoft website it comes up with in the search bar "WindowsUpdate_dt000 OR 80072EF3" but there is nothing on the website on it at all? and no where on the internet????? are you Brink, or anyone else able to help me??? i cant even check for updates let alone install them. my laptop has never been updated.

Hello HPuser, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Please give OPTION ONE a try to see if it may be able to change your default lock screen background for you. It's not hard to make a mistake in OPTION TWO, and could be a possible cause.

Go ahead and create a new thread in the Windows Updates & Activation forum area for your Windows Update issue, and we'll see what we can do to help with it there.

    Brink,
option 1 looks like exactly what I need! I didn't try it first because you know how sometimes stuff like that has viruses...
Anyway, so I downloaded it, but when I tried to open/ run it, an error message came up that said application not found???
Even though I know the location of the file and everything?
    AHHHHHHHH! I need it!

No worries hpuser. I will never post anything that is harmful.

Did you extract the one for Windows 8.1 in the downloaded .zip file?

I went into properties and it was blocked, so I unblocked it and still the same thing...???

It looks like the download may have been interrupted, and would be why it's not found.

Do you have any issues with opening other .zip files? Create one to test if needed.

I cant even create a zip file let alone extract its contents. I have tried and it wasn't even an option.
I think its because my laptop has never been updated and it came with minimal applications etc
so I downloaded winzip (the free one), but when I went to install it, it said call technical support and mention
error code 10???? which I have no intentions of doing because I hate that stuff to death.
I feel like this zip file is going to be the only thing that solves my problem of not being able to change
my normal lock screen at all ever again!!

As a test. See how 7-Zip works for you.

    Brink,....
    SUCESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
I was able to get rid of the blue screens on both the default and the normal lockscreen!!!!!!!
After days of struggle an answer has been found!
Of course there is another problem though,
so I am able to change both lockscreens, however on both the come up as the same picture,
so I try to go into pc settings to change the normal lockscreen to a different picture but I cant.
this is what was happening before, I was able to choose a picture but.. see for yourself
