All Hail Brink!! Seriously, I've been wondering about how to remedy this issue for awhile now. About 5 months ago, I had this happen to a user & after doing a bunch of searching I gave up. Now I'm setting up 8 PCs, and long-short it happened to me on 2of8 PCs. I didn't want to reset, as it takes too long... So I tried this registry-fix and voila!! - it just worked, but a new problem came with the fix. ... When I put the profiles back in and logged in, I noticed that the Store-icon and the Edge-icon were missing - furthermore the start screen was missing a LOT of icons (apps), so I tried the popular fix where you open an elevated-powerShell & you copy & paste a line of command(s) into the powershell. It worked -sort of. On the 2 PCs the fix had to be run twice and on each PC, the results were always slightly different.

Brink, could you tell me how using your registry-fix would result in missing apps? It makes no sense as I deleted the affected user folders before I applied your fix. When I logged into another profile that we add to each PC, the icons (that were missing from the fixed profile) were there.

Either way, Thanks Brink!! You're awesome!!

Hello Mike. and welcome to Eight Forums.

I take it that this is for Windows 10?

The app issue came from running the PowerShell command to re-register the apps. Currently their is a bug in Windows 10 that will break all apps when the PowerShell command is used for all of them.

The only way to fix this is to do a repair install, but at least you won't lose anything other than time.

Well, five weeks with no problem. I thank you all, specially @Brink for the patience. I believe MS has solved this issue for Windows 10.
    Good luck, people

Hello Admin . This is the second time i have faced this situation . First time was the Horrible ''hiberfil.sys'' situation when u cannot even do system restore as it says "drive where Windows is installed is locked" which i could fix thanks to winhelp.us Thats the first time my profile got corrupted had to rebuild everything (profile) from scratch. Few minutes ago I had ran into same problem and going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList I can see corrupt profile.......fortunately after a restart i could sign in to my usual Microsoft account without any problem. What do u think i should do to fix this problem so that it doesnt happen again? Assume that i have disabled unnecessary windows services including windows search (use voidtools Everything for searching) windows update (update once a month after reading changelog/support info {kb article}) Also u should no my windows store is not working [download works...during installing of ANY app(app that require network connectivity as well as offline apps) fails with an error code]..tried everything Windows store cache reset and that commandline deauthorized method..and other methods. Should i transfer everything to a local admin account ? sfc /scannow c drive error checking, dism health restore all done no prob found........Awaiting for ur reply........also assume i had done during my hiberfil.sys situation bootrec /fixmbr commands Thankz in advance

Hello srikanth, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, you might see if doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you had the temporary profile error may help sort this for you.
