User Folder Group - Add to Navigation Pane in Windows 8

How to Add or Remove Your User Folder on Navigation Pane in Windows 8 and 8.1

information   Information
This tutorial will show you how to add or remove your User Folder as a separate group on the navigation pane of File Explorer in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

This will only add or remove your user profile folder (C:\Users\User-Name) as a separate group when Show all folders is unchecked. Your user profile folder will still always show when Show all folders is checked.

This tutorial is only applied to your (current) user account, and not all users.

Downloaded the user name removal file and ran it. I restarted and opened windows explorer with my user name still there under the desktop tree. Then I opened the file and it only has one line. No added option if one has 64-bit. I also tried to used your tutorial for windows 7 but could not get the permissions change to be accepted. So at a lost. Any suggestions?

I am running windows 8.1 pro 64-bit.

Remove the checked "all folders" does remove the user name tree. However I had it checked to see the Recycle Bin, which I wanted since it is not visible under Desktop like in Win 7. Is there a way to get Recycle Bin to show without checking the "all folders" in navigation pane?

Thank you for your help. Noticed that I have it on my desktop (I think it was a carry over from win 7 when I upgraded to win 8) but does not show up in win explorer when desktop is highlighted. Any thoughts on why it doesn't show up but is there?

Nar, the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop is there by default in Windows 8/8.1 as well. You can turn it on/off at will though.
If you click on Desktop under the Favorites group in the navigation pane, you should see the Recycle Bin. This would be the Desktop shell folder.

If you like, drag the Recycle Bin on your desktop to the Favorites folder in the navigation pane until you see a "Create link in Favorites" message, and release it. You'll have Recycle Bin under Favorites.

I already removed the Favorites so I dragged the desktop RC icon to the Desktop folder under my computer tree and created a shortcut. I think that will work for me.

Thank you again for your helpful quick response. Have a great day!
