How to Find Your Default Gateway IP Address in Windows 8 and 8.1

A default gateway is the node on the computer network that the network software uses when an IP address does not match any other routes in the routing table. It is usually the IP address of the router to which your PC network is connected.

This tutorial will show you how to find your default gateway IP address to enter in your web browser's address bar to log in to your router or modem in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

To Find Default Gateway IP Address in Network Connection Details

1. Do step 2 or 3 below for how you would like to open Network Connection Details.

2. Open the Control Panel (icons view), click/tap on the Network and Sharing Center icon, click/tap on the Connections link for your network profile name (ex: vEthernet (New Virtual Switch)) on the right, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)

3. In Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows RT, or Windows RT 8.1, open the Control Panel (icons view), click/tap on the Network and Sharing Center icon, click/tap on the Change adapter settings link on the left. (see screenshot above)

A) Click/tap on the connected network adapter (ex: vEthernet (New Virtual Switch)), and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)

OR

B) Select the connected network adapter (ex: vEthernet (New Virtual Switch)), click/tap on View status of this connection in the toolbar, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)

OR

C) Right click or press and hold on the connected network adapter (ex: vEthernet (New Virtual Switch)), click/tap on Status, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)

4. Click/tap on Details. (see screenshot below)

5. The default gateway IP address will be to the right of IPv4 Default Gateway. (see screenshot below)

To Find Default Gateway IP Address in Command Prompt

1. Open a command prompt.

2. In the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and press enter. (see screenshot below step 3)

3. Scroll down to the listed network adapter or NIC that you want to see the IP address of. The default gateway IP address will be to the right of Default Gateway under your network connection adapter's name (ex: vEthernet (New Virtual Switch)). (see screenshot below)
