Internet Explorer Cookies - Allow or Block in Windows 8

How to Allow or Block Cookies in IE10 and IE11 in Windows 8 and 8.1

information   Information
Cookies are small files that websites put on your PC to store information about you and your preferences. Cookies can make your browsing experience better by letting sites remember your preferences or letting you avoid signing in each time you visit certain sites. However, some cookies might put your privacy at risk by tracking sites that you visit.

Internet Explorer allows you to control the cookies that are stored on your computer. You can block or allow certain cookies, and you can choose specific sites to allow or block cookies from.

Blocking cookies might prevent some webpages from displaying correctly, or you might get a message from a site letting you know that you need to allow cookies to view that site.

Changes you make to block, allow, or customize cookie settings apply to both the modern Internet Explorer and desktop Internet Explorer.

This tutorial will show you how to allow or block certain cookies and cookies from specific sites in IE10 or IE11 in only your account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

Note   Note
In Windows 8 an Windows RT for IE10, cookies are saved in the hidden protected OS folders below:
C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies
AND
C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies\Low

In Windows 8.1 an Windows RT 8.1 for IE11, cookies are saved in the hidden protected OS folders below:
C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCookies
AND
C:\Users\(user-name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCookies\Low

If you like, you could also use the shell commands below to open the cookies folder locations above for both IE10 and IE11.
shell:cookies
AND
shell:cookies\low

Types of Cookies

Description

Session cookies

Temporary, or session, cookies are removed from your PC after you close Internet Explorer. Websites use them to store temporary information, such as items in your shopping cart.

Persistent cookies

Persistent, or saved, cookies remain on your computer after you close Internet Explorer. Websites use them to store information, such as your sign-in name and password, so that you don't have to sign in each time you go to a particular site. Persistent cookies can remain on your computer for days, months, or even years.

First-party cookies

First-party cookies come from the website that you're viewing and can be either persistent or temporary. Websites might use these cookies to store information that they'll reuse the next time you go to that site.

Third-party cookies

Third-party cookies come from other websites' advertisements (such as pop-up or banner ads) on the website that you're viewing. Websites might use these cookies to track your web use for marketing purposes.
