Power Options - Add or Remove "Dim display after"

    ok, i think? do you happen to know of any third party options that will dim the screen after x amount of time? thanks again, and thanks for the tremendous forum!

    You might see how the free program f.lux may work for you for this. It's pretty good.

    thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't look to be what i'm after, which is something that will dim the screen x% when the system is idle, and return to full brightness once the screen is touched again, without ever turning off the screen... gonna do some more google searching, there has to be something out there like that... thanks again.

    found a free, simple program - shadenow... so far it seems to be a winner and does just what i need: dims the screen x % after x amount of time, both defined by the user, and returns to full brightness, or wakes up, the moment you touch the screen...

    I've been searching for a solution to this problem (Windows 10 though), and I just wanted to add that this solution won't work (assuming part of the desired goal is power saving). The ShadeNow program "dims" the screen by darkening the color of the LCD. It does not appear to dim the backlight. If one has an OLED screen this may work, but for most of us with backlit LCDs this probably isn't going to achieve the desired result.

    I tested this by exploiting my screens lovely edge lit backlight bleed =P
