Hello Swaroop, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Your spec say you have a HP Envy, so the link below at HP can help show you how to create a set of recovery discs or a recovery USB flash drive if you like.

Do you have anything like this:

    Attachment 45141

    Attachment 45143

    Attachment 45140

Or in Settings {Metro} can you access this:

    Attachment 45142
Thanks, is this software available for download?

Odd that is shows installed, but doesn't show up in search with recover manager. You might look in your Program Files folders to see if you may spot it.

This would be to reset Windows 8. You could also do this instead, but it would take you back to Windows 8, and you would have to install all the updates again afterwards.

I was hoping your computer had something similar.

Good news. Yes, I would recommend to create your recovery discs first, then upgrade to 8.1.

Windows 8.1 - Update to from Windows 8

If you like, you could also use a program like Macrium Reflect free to create a system image after 8.1 is installed to be able to recover back to that point if ever needed in the future.

    Windows 8.1

    Hello Brink,

Is it possible to refresh Win 8.1 with different OS version?

I've built a new PC and wanted to try if every app I need runs OK with new Windows. So a week ago I've installed Win 8.1 (Pro, from OEM image, AFAIR, with generic key, without activation), and all apps. Almost everything works fine so I've bought a retail (non-Pro) Windows 8.1 to use it permanently. Configuration and setup everything takes a lot of time, would be nice to refresh my current "trial-OEM-Pro" system (OS, apps and settings), to "retail-non-pro".
    PS. Sorry for my English

Sorry, but no. It will only refresh to what was originally installed.

Once you have it set how you like, you could create a custom refresh image to use instead when you refresh though.
