it re-enables itself automatically and runs everyday, I'll set it to be run only when the computer is idle. that's better and won't slow my computer when I'm working on it.

It sounds like you have something set or installed that is enabling it like that. Running when idle would be a good workaround though.

I think many have the same problem like me, I think it's the windows itself which enables it again.

I have the same problem... months ago I used windows 8 and this maintenance thing annoyed the crap out of me so I went back to windows 7. I simply could not deactivate or stop it. And on my laptop if the maintenance is running also my CPU fan is running like crazy.

Today, I installed Windows 10 (which is based on windows 8 I think) and since 3 hours I hear my loud CPU again because the maintenance is running.

I stopped it and deactivated it but after 10 minutes it started again, I did not do anything.. it just started. God I hate this crap, now I want to go back to win7 again.

The best solution, I have so far, is to check only:

Start the task only if the computer is idle for: 5 mins or more
Stop if the computer ceases to be idle
Restart if the idle state resumes
Click image for larger versionClick image for larger version

    and uncheck :
Allow schedules maintenance to wake up my computer at the schedule time.

this way, at least, it doesn't run when you're working on your pc

I have a question, is there a difference between the role of idle maintenance and regular maintenance?
I know that the first is done when the computer is idle, but it there any other difference?

    Hello Nourine,

The problem is that no one knows exactly what maintenance each task performs to be able to give a 100% accurate answer. I would imagine that "regular maintenance" would include all maintenance running at normal priority, while "low maintenance" would be the basics (ex: rebuild index) that run in the background at low priority and stops running if there is a lot of user activity.

I think you're right, because regular maintenance takes longer time than other maintenance.

    Hello Klepp,

I've found that if you have any of the services (ex: Windows Update, Optimize Drives, etc...) that Automatic Maintenance manages set to automatically run, then they will cause it to be enabled and turned back on again.
