Libraries - Move above This PC in Windows 8.1

  1. #20

    Brink you are golden!
    The only addition I made is to edit this Common Dialogue key:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}] "SortOrderIndex"=54 to 42 (I think this varies from machine to machine or Windows version so YMMV)

    This is the same edited value I have in:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}] "SortOrderIndex"=42

    File Explorer and Common Dialogues now look the same, the Libraries show above Computer!

    Thanks again, aflat.

    Hi, I ran the registry file to move "Libraries" above "This PC". Unfortunately, it had a side-effect of creating TWO "Libraries" entries in the navigation pane -- one of them above "This PC" (thankfully) and one of them below it. How do I remove the second one only? Right clicking a blank space and checking or unchecking "show libraries" adds or removes BOTH of them.

    Thanks!

    Hi energye, welcome;
    Do you want Libraries up in Favorites-expandable?

    Quick update: It seems that I only have one "Libraries" again, and it's directly below Favorites, where I wanted it. Sorry for the false alarm! Not sure why I had two "Libraries" in the navigation pane for a while. Glad it's fixed for whatever reason now.

    Thanks for the registry file and for helping me move it below favorites!

    Hello Energye, and welcome to Eight Forums.

    No worries. It sounds like it didn't refresh properly to show only one. This is usually sorted by closing and reopening File Explorer.

    It copied Libraries above This PC and Libraries located below it is still there. So there are 2 Libraries folders.

    Hello OneDrive, and welcome to Eight Forums.

    See if doing step 8 to close and reopen File Explorer sorts it. If not, then restart the PC to see it may.
