I would highly advise against using an illegal torrent copy. There's no telling what (ex: malware) may also be included with it.

But AFAIK there isn't any official copy right? Read that Microsoft hasn't released the 8.1 iso for public download..

    UPDATE:

When you update Windows 8 via the Store in OPTION ONE of this tutorial, it will now upgrade your Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Update instead of Windows 8.1.

    Just tested and confirmed.

That is great to know Shawn, and as always wonderfully, detailed work!
I am one of the 'fortunate ones' who successfully updated from Win 8.1 Pro/Media Center to Windows 8.1 Pro Update/Media...I never received any 'error messages'.....had one little cosmetic glitch....have experimented too, having installed KB2919355 (Win 8.1 Update patch), from both Windows Update, and the MSDN stand-alone file...

If I feel like doing a clean install of Win 8 Pro------>then upgrade via MS Store directly to Windows 8.1 Pro Update...nice to know..thanks. Of course I will install my copy of Media Center too....reviewed a MS Engineer stating on the Windows 8 Forums, that having Media Center files (even prior to installing Windows 8.1 Pro Update....'will not compromise the KB2919355 installation at all....'

This inspired me to go visit my Windows 8 partition for the first time in months just to try this out. The 'proprietor' of the Store said I needed to install Windows Updates before I could do the Store Update, 107 of them!!!
I said screw it and deleted the partition.
(Wow, Windows 8 seems like a dinosaur compared to what we're playing with now!)

LOL, I hear you Edwin. There are a lot of updates, but technically, you only needed to install the KB2871389 and KB2917499 updates to be able to update via the Store though.

Has anyone tried doing this from the Setup with just product key only to see if they put a new image there? I remember reading earlier someone said the 30th is when they will do it.

Hello Mansome, and welcome to Eight Forums.

So far, you are able to directly update from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Update via the Store using OPTION ONE.

I tested a few days back to download an ISO with a product key, and it wasn't the Windows 8.1 Update ISO yet.

Win7 and Win8 in dual boot

I have Win7 and Win8 in Dual Boot, each one on a different SSD. My question: if I upgrade Win8 to Win8.1 does that affect the Dual Boot, or it does not have any effect on it?

Thanks in advance for your reply

    Vic,

Do yourself a favor and don't use a torrent that could have malware included with it.

Instead you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to download an official Windows 8.1 ISO directly from Microsoft with your Windows 8 key.
