Keith, I tried that. It works - somehow. I can see the folders but cannot yet open them. Have to work on it.

I also tried those and they work. It's just a matter of some tweaks or right "read - write" modes.

To be honest, you assign the whole needed partition or disk as a shared folder and it's easier and less risky than using a physical disk in the VM but sometimes the shared folder has slower speeds but is recommended (easier because no reboots are needed after you add one).

You also have "drag and drop" BUT the shared folders is just like in VBox and should get you on the right path.

The partition sharing works well. I like the drag and drop ability but one could also use Copy/Paste directly from the host. For what do we have a shared clipboard.

The folder sharing is problematic. Although I specified only one single folder from my test partition to share, it gave me the whole data partition (which is a different partition). And then I could not open the files. The green bar was running forever.

Well, I guess I go with the partition sharing. Seems to work well and does what I want to do.

Very strange. I've not tried it in VMPlayer for a while. It works in VBox nicely. I now don't have a Win 8 to try it in VMPlayer.

Don't worry Keith. When I have some time, I will play around with it.

Thanks Keith. The nice part with the partition sharing is that it also works for my Linux (Zorin) VMware partition. Here it is even more useful right now because I have not yet figured out how to get the VMware tool installed in the Zorin partition. That is another todo.

I really don't know how I ever managed to go to work. I have all day now and there never seems to be enough time.

The next thing then is to get my VMware client working on my Nexus 7 tablet. But that's another story.

Compared to VBOX sharing, the one in VMware works identical but the speeds seem to be slower here.
But the copy paste from clipboard is pretty fast.

    .
    I have Zorin as well.

Just "install tools" and the cd will get mounted to desktop in Zorin.
You have to locally extract the tar/gz archive.

Then open a terminal cd (change directory) to the extracted tools folder and run the*.pl file as root ("sudo ./file.pl) then just enter yes or no (the defaults are great choices to begin with) and then reboot the VM and you are done.
