    Hey Clint,

Yes, you can just run the 7.0 installer to update your current version without losing anything.

Win8.1 64bit, Windows 10 TP on VMWare Player

I followed the tutorial and Wolgang's videos to install Windows 10 TP onto a newly installed VMWare player.

So far this has gone smoothly and I now need to just find my way around W10 (personally I don't like the combination of Start menu and start screen; it looks clunky to me - a messy hybrid of the two. But I got used to W8 so maybe it's just a question of time).

Using both the tutorial and the video enabled me to create the new machine and install the OS in one operation, rather than choosing to install the OS later. VMWare tools were also automatically installed and there was not really much that I needed to do.

Worth noting that things have moved on from the video and I'm pretty sure there was a W10 option to choose, after which I was asked for a product key (which is given on the MS download page, fortunately .) Below is the screen I got.

    Name: vm#1.PNG
Views: 154
Size: 12.4 KB

This also gives the option to log on automatically, which I chose, but then I changed to a MS account and lost this. So now I need to browse the W10 forum to find out how to set this up again (I keep searching for netplwiz in my W10 but I just can't seem to get there yet).

netplwiz is there. Just type it into search or on the start screen if you toggle that (like me).

I got it sorted after a while, but at first I was getting all sorts of internet links. But now I'm all set with automatic log on, so time to move on to all the other challenges .

Talking of which, I don't seem to be able to use Smileys on here from the Quick Reply box. I can select one but it doesn't paste into the text. I have to go to Advanced to get them to paste. Is this likely to be anything to do with being in a VM?

    Maggi,

Nar, it's some bug in the last site software update that affects this in IE for some. I have to do the same on my desktop, but don't have to on the laptop.

Okay, thanks Shawn. I'm also having a slight challenge with posting attachments, but I'm able to work round it, having experienced something similar before. I'll assume that's a bug as well.

It's all related. I find using "Go Advanced" works better with all this.
