    Hello Tinyman,

Not sure what's causing the hard drives to be opened up like that. Please go ahead and create a separate thread for that issue since it's not related to the this tutorial for better support.

    Brink,
I think I selected the wrong account now I cannot get back to login as admin. Anytime I try to do something that requires admin permissions I get a popup asking for a smartcard and asking to enter my admin password but no field area to enter a password. Please help. This is a new computer but I don't want to have to setup everything again. Thanks. I've tried manually logging out and back in but this is not working. The auto login is working great except for not being an admin.

Hello Wildbio, and welcome to Eight Forums.

No worries. You could use the method in the tutorial below to temporarily bypass the automatic sign in at startup to be able to select the account you want to sign in to instead. You'll need to be fast to do this though. Afterwards, you could set the automatic sign in settings to the correct account.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the quick response! I tried this and I am only showing one account (windows live). I logged in and it is still not allowing me to change any setting/add programs. Not really sure what to do now. Thanks bro.

In that case, you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before you had this issue may be able to help.

I just got a new computer with Windows 8.1 yesterday, although after setting everything up I realized they sent me a non touchscreen model and that's not what I wanted so I'll be getting a new one and want to know if I can by pass the username and password when I set up this new one or do I have to create a username and password and then follow your instructions to prevent me having to sign in every time I turn on the computer?

Hello Sheryl, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You would still have to set up a user account on it, but it's your choice if you wanted to setup a "Microsoft account" or "local account". If you wanted a "local account", then the easiest way to do so at setup would be to not be connected to the internet during setup. If you don't use a Microsoft account (email address), then you will not be able to use the Store or any apps (ex: Mail, SkyDrive) that use a Microsoft service.

Either way, you could use this tutorial to have Windows 8/8.1 sign in to it automatically at startup if you like.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks. It will be a few weeks before my new computer comes so I can't check things out until then. I just figured I'd make sure any of the problems I encountered first time around don't happen with the replacement computer.

    Hello Brink,
first thank you on all your tutorials, they are really useful.

    I have problem with this.
I have add local account and I am using only local account, but everytime Im turning on my PC it fails to login im direct to windows. It fails cause in username it enters my PC name(name that is in C:\User), not the name I have chosen for my local account.

This screen I got, when I click OK I am prompted to enter my username and password(and username here is stated one from C:\User)

Only possible solutions I have think is to make local account with name that is used in C:\User
