Hmm, I'm not sure why you wouldn't see thumbnails even when you made them available offline. Did they fully sync while available offline? I'm sure you had used an icon view and not "details" in the folder?

I will try to download them again, and leave it a few hours before I make online again. Thanks

Just a quick question about synchronizing files. What happens if you edit a particular file from two separate offline locations. How is it synced? would sky drive just eventuate to the latest modified file from the two locations?

Hello Dilson, and welcome to Eight Forums.

That's correct. If both PCs are set to have the file "Available Offline", then whenever the PC syncs next, the file will be updated with the latest version of it on SkyDrive.

    Hello, You explained that:

I'm trying to free up space on my Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. OneDrive was set to having everything available offline so I have 13GB in that folder. I changed the global setting to be available online only, but as you mentioned, the files are all still there. How do I get rid of the locally cached versions and free up the space? I tried deleting a file but it deletes it from the cloud as well. How do I reclaim that space? Thanks!

Hello sj3cvans, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If the file originated on your PC, then you could copy the file temporarily to your desktop, delete the file from OneDrive (online and locally), save the file to your OneDrive online, and set the file to be available online only.

Unfortunately, I have 13GB of files and only 2GB of space left. I'll keep looking for a solution. It will probably involve unlinking my OneDrive, deleting the files locally, then re-linking again. Thanks for your help!

Hi Shawn. Brushing up on my OneDrive since the changes.

Just to let you know > Your link “SkyDrive introduces smart files in Windows 8.1” in your opening Information box has been changed.

This is in 8.1 Pro 64bit:

So, “Making files and folders available offline” actually makes them “hard copies” on a disk and if edited while offline it will synch those changes as soon as the device goes back online, correct?

Another tidbit I just tested. After making my files and folders available offline in Desktop\OneDrive (which is actually C:\Users\UserName\SkyDrive), I tried to back them up on a different drive only to get this warning:

Size: 15.1 KB

So I created a test folder and copied/pasted files and folders to that drive with success. The properties did change with the correct/new path. They also opened with their proper apps to be edited as well.

Concerning "(which is actually C:\Users\UserName\SkyDrive)" > Can the SkyDrive folder be safely renamed OneDrive?

I bet it’s quite a challenge for you to keep up with all these fast-moving changes, eh?
