Thanks Shawn... must be having a senior moment. I've attached stuff countless times lol.

Ah, so the generic message applies no matter what. Perhaps best just to run sfc /scannow occasionally instead.

Yeah, SFC would be a good starting point, then use DISM if SFC is unable to repair the system files.

I ran the sfc /scannow and it came back corrupt files that can't be corrected. I then ran the Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth prompt to try and fix the issue. When I did it gets to 20% and then I get an error message "Error: 1726" "The remote procedure call failed." The DISM log file can be found at C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

So I'm not sure what to do next. Any helped would be welcomed.

    DISM - Stuck @ 20%

Does anyone know how long this should run. I have been running this for an hour and it seems to be stuck at 20%. Can I escape from this?

Hello Chembel, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Unless you have a lot of corruption, that is a long time to be stuck at 20%. If you like, you can just close the command prompt to cancel it.

I actually posted this in two different places on these forums. By the time I had completed both posts, it had jumped to 80%. I was definitely being impatient. It did complete successfully, so I suspect there were a few damaged files.

Thanks for responding to my question.

It usually sticks at 20% & then jumps ahead to a larger %.

I find that on average it takes about an hour, more or less, for it to finish.

    The same for sfc /scannow.

    hello,

when end I try to restore via powershell, powershell crashes immediately.

when I use dism I get:

    Error:0x800f0906

The Source file could not be downloaded

    so, then I tried

    net start wuauserv

but but windows reported that it was already running

sfc /scannow finders errors it cannot fix.

    what is my next step?
