    Hello Daniel,

The details for this are in the links in the note box under both step 4 and 5 in the tutorial to help. What ISO you get depends on what the Windows is that you download the ISO on.

    Brink -
I messed up my W8Pro installation with a partition procedure. I can log into my user account, but the screen is just black. Can I get to this repair install somehow else please?

    Hello simrick,

A repair install can only be done from within Windows since it's basically just an in-place upgrade to the same edition.

I would recommend to continue with your thread below for a possible solution. Possibly a system restore at boot may help if that's an available option.

hi there. i've tried to do the repair install and it just won't work...

i have tried installing within windows 8 pro 64 bit (i removed media center pack) from the dvd and usb drive in my user account as well as a clean new user account i created (admin rights enabled) and every time i press the install button it goes to the initial screen and about 20-30 seconds later a window pops up saying "windows installation failed".

i am currently trying to install using an iso but i doubt it'll make a difference.

    any suggestions?

    Hello Steve,

What's the complete error message you get?

The installation media must be exactly the same as what you currently have installed, or it'll never work.

    Here's the screenshot.

Could i make an install dvd from my windows installation to make sure i am using the exact same version?

i'm unaware whether it makes a difference if i've got most of my user folders on another hdd? (mostly media folders like my videos, etc). i don't think appdata has been moved (just a couple of app folders within this that have been junctioned (two games and thunderbird) as they were really big folders)...?

Yep, that would make a difference. You don't have to copy over the contents if you don't have enough free space, but the user folders need to be moved back to C: before trying to do a repair install.
