Ah, that would be why then. WMC would not be the same as the installation media.

You might see if you may be able to do this below to remove WMC, then see if you are able to do the repair install with the Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps option.

Media Center - Remove and Go Back to Windows 8 Pro

Before doing the repair install, check to see how your installation is working. You might get lucky with the process of removing WMC fixing it.

I had changed the registry entry to Win 8 Pro earlier. Changed it to Win 8.1 Pro just now but unfortunately it's still the same. Oh well :/

Can you still do this even if you got Windows 8.1 via an update from the Windows Store? Will it still accept my Win8 product key?

    Hello XypherCode,

Yes, but you would need to have Windows 8.1 installation media, and use a generic key. Afterwards change the key to your 8 key to activate.

I've updated the tutorial to help.

Oh by the way before I try this out. When I'm finally going to change my key in step 24, does it accept a Windows 8 "upgrade" key because that's what I have and not the key that came when you actually bought it. The one that you can get Windows 8 for about less than 50 or 40 bucks if you upgrade from Windows 7.

    Thanks.

If it doesn't activate normally, then you should be able to activate by phone.

Hello Specter, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm downloading an ISO now, and will install it in a VM to test when it's finished to see. I'll post back with the results.
