How to Add "Choose Power Plan" to Desktop Context Menu in Windows 7 and Windows 8

This tutorial will show you how to add a cascading "Choose Power Plan" context menu to the desktop of all users to make it easy to change your power plan to either Balanced, Power Saver, or High Performance at will in Windows 7 and Windows 8.

While you must be sign in as and administrator to be able to add or remove the "Choose Power Plan" desktop context menu, all users will be able to use the context menu.

Note   Note
When you select a power plan in the "Choose Power Plan" context menu, you will see a command prompt window quickly flash open and close as it changes your power plan to what you selected.

Here's How:

1. To Add "Choose Power Plan" to the Desktop Context Menu

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 3 below.

To Remove "Choose Power Plan" from the Desktop Context Menu
NOTE:
This is the default setting.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 3 below.

3. Save the REG file to your desktop.

4. Double click/tap on the REG file to merge it, and click /tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK when prompted to approve the merge.

5. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

6. Right click or press and hold on your desktop to see the change.
NOTE: You can press the Windows+ D keys to go to the desktop.
