    That's not good if the process was interrupted by it getting unplugged. That will usually make it unrecoverable.

    Have you already tried to see if you are able to open the drive?

    If you are not able to, then since it says it's decrypted, you might see if you may be able to recover the data using an option in the tutorial below.

    Hello Gogi, and welcome to Eight Forums.

    You might see if using step 2 in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below may be able to unlock the drive with your BitLocker password instead.

    If you are currently running Windows 8, then see if you may be able to use step 1 in Option One of the tutorial on the first page.

    The error message you got in your command prompt screenshot is a generic error message meaning that the password you entered to unlock the drive is either not the correct Bitlocker password for that drive, or it just simply failed to unlock the drive because of an unspecified reason.

    The error message in your first screenshot in the Control Panel indicates that the removable drive may have some sort of write protection enabled (not BitLocker), or BitLocker was interrupted while trying to convert (unlock) the drive. If this was interrupted, then there's a good chance that it could have hosed the drive to never be recoverable.

    I'm afraid not. Without the BitLocker recovery key or working password, you are pretty much out of luck on unlocking a BitLocker encrypted drive since that's the whole point of BitLocker.

    Appreciate any help or guidance with my question below, apologies there's a fair bit of background first....

    I have two partitions on my Crucial MX100 SSD drive:

    * C - For Windows and programs.

    * D - For data.

    Turning on Bitlocker seemed to cause what appears to be a known issue for these Crucial drives, Windows now sees the D drive as RAW format. My data appears lost. Details from other users seeing this issue here - http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Crucial-...AW/td-p/160943

    It still seemed I could turn Bitlocker off on the D drive through Windows, but with the drive seen in RAW format I'm not too convinced this worked. I've tried several data recovery tools against the drive with no luck. I've now slaved the physical drive from my desktop and tried running the MS Bitlocker Data Recovery Tool. I was using a command similar to:

    repair-bde N: P: -pw -Force

    I supply the password I used for Bitlocker when prompted.

    I end up receiving this error:

    ERROR: The input volume has suffered damages to critical information related to the decryption key. Please try the -keypackage option to specify a key package. The volume may not be recoverable.

    When I look into using the -keypackage option I understand I need...you guessed it, my key package. In the syntax of the command line options it shows as example as a path, e.g. "F:\ExportedKeyPackage". I have the recovery key (a 48 numerical string) backed up in my Microsoft Account. Do I need to save that key to a file in a particular format to act as an exported key package, or am I confusing the purpose of this?

    Hello 123, and welcome to Eight Forums.

    Have you already tried to recover it using step 3 with your recovery key or step 4 with your startup key?

    If you try the -keypackage (-KP) switch, then you could leave it blank to let the tool search for the key package automatically.

    Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried the above, but am struggling with understanding the correct syntax.

    repair-bde N: P: -kp

    The above throws an error ...

    ERROR: Invalid syntax. Use "repair-bde -?" for correct usage.

    When I check the syntax.....

    -kp or -KeyPackage
    Optional. Provide a key package to unlock the volume.
    Example: "F:\ExportedKeyPackage"

    If this option is blank, the tool will look for the key package
    automatically. This option is needed only if required by the tool.

    The error is suggesting my syntax is wrong rather than the tool not needing/finding what it wants? Any pointers please?
