Yes, David is right, you can download the ISO in a Virtual machine - either 32- or 64-bit.
see can i make an iso from an upgraded 8.1 installation?

follow the links in blue for the various bits needed.

    good luck

Thanks for that. Glad to know you tested it and it works. In fact I did have success myself using Windows 8.1 Preview (both 32 and 64 bit) in VMs to download the two flavours of 8.1 ISO, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get the 8.1 Preview now.

Just to add to your other post - I do like the modern.ie test VMs, and have used them myself, but as you say, it's not obvious which is 64-bit and which is 32-bit.

However if you use the Windows 7 Evaluation versions from Technet, you get to choose 32 or 64 when downloading, although you then have to do slightly more work setting up the VM compared to the modern.ie versions.

Just so I'm clear on this; when I'm trying to download the Windows 8.1 ISO I click on both Windows 8.0 and Windows 8.1 in that order and then I assume you click "save" on each one and not "run"?

    Hello Corax,

Yep, that's correct. You would download both to your desktop first, then run them as per the tutorial.

OK, but now if I already had Windows 8.1 installed and I was just trying to get the ISO for a later reinstallation (if needed) I cancel the Windows 8.0 download and then run WindowsSetupBox.exe to get Windows 8.1? and I can do that from a computer that has Windows 8.1 already installed?

It all depends on what the product key is for instead.

If you have a Windows 8 key and not a 8.1 key, then you would use all of OPTION ONE with both downloads.

    Hi,

What could be issue on this?

I have a pre-installed win8 on Lenovo G580. I wanted to have a copy of win8 ISO but I don't have the copy of the product key. No sticker as well so I tried to get it using Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com).

    1) Is it ok to use this software?
    2) Is there any way to get my Product Key so I can proceed to download win8 ISO?

I really do appreciate your kind assistance.

Hello Morzshock, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, you could use that program or any of the options in the tutorial below to see your product key number in Windows 8.
