Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

The clean install went smoothly with the W8 Pro Key I had bought and installed over 8 a couple of years ago.
The previous setup was somewhat standard with a C: on SSD and Data on the HDD with the drive letter X: which I have used for various systems for the last 6-8 years.
After the install I noticed the (Data)Drive letter being D:. So I want to change to X: as a lot of links in the old documents refer to X:
If the X: is available in the Win 8 Disk Management I should be able to change even with the warning below?

yes you can change D to X
But X is usually reserved for WinPE / WinRE

Does it mean I can't use any Win PE (disk management) after changing to X?

X is not the best drive letter to use..

Obviously a mistake from years ago.
The other way would be, if possible, change all the references in relevant folder shortcuts . Not sure if that is possible?
Has anyone done that? Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

I have left my data partition with X: and tested if it would create a problem with a partition manager(e.g. active@boot disk). Seems not to create any problem yet. Everything else (e.g. shortucts) are working.

    Windows 8.1

Hi Brink. The picture below Option 2 "Download Windows 8.1 Update ISO File with Retail Windows 8 Key" no longer matches what is on the US & UK web sites. They now only mention Windows 8.1 and not Windows 8. Looks like they only have the Windows 8.1 downloads available and not the Windows 8 downloads.
