Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

  1. #620

    Hello Win 8/8.1 Folk
    I have a legit win8 pro(installed over 8) system a couple of years ago..
I would like to download and clean install 8.1 on this working machine as 10 is not suitable yet. I have tried every possible way to download a 8.1 iso though the 8 pro key is not accepted. If I go to the store it gives me the 8.1 option though I do not want it that way.
    I want a clean install.
Help would be very much appreciated.

    Hello Kiwig,

Are you downloading a Windows 8.1 Pro ISO file using OPTION ONE?

Thanks Brink for getting back so quick.
I have tried that unsuccessfully as the pull down fields remain empty.

    Brink, an update
After disabling anti-virus and firewall I was able to start the download as per your option one.

Now, once I have the ISO burned to DVD, how can I or am I able to activate the fresh install?

If you download and install the version matching your OEM key, it will activate just fine. My laptop has a Windows 8.0 OEM key, if I install Windows 8.1 downloaded from the Media Creation tool I don't get prompted for a key and it activates automatically. I do believe its all explained in the tutorial.

Correct. Your Windows 8/8.1 product key is stored in the UEFI firmware chip of your motherboard, and will automatically be detected and activated with it if you use the same edition.
