They are aiming at a particular market. The people who will only buy little $250 notebooks. Sometimes called the poke and go crowd.

They will only have tiny storage, they are for consuming content. That is the reason for the attempts at compression, wimboot, and it is why they don't keep the update installation media - it gets deleted.

If you know how, you can create recovery media before it gets deleted.

You might think MS would offer would offer a way to do that. No point, the target market would not know what it is.

They're known as "untouched" ISOs I believe.

You don't need to fish about on the net.

Just close the upgrade window when it hits 100%. Copy the $Windows~bt folder somewhere safe. It contains the install.esd.

Then you can reboot to complete the upgrade, the original esd will be deleted, but you still have your copy.

Sorry what are you referring to? I was talking about factory OEM keys that don't work with win setup box for people who don't have/have lost their restore media.

If anyone bought a machine with 8 preinstalled, most ( but not all ) will have a recovery partition and the ability to run off recovery media. Users may not have done that, or lost it , or didn't get the option at all.

If you then do the store upgrade to 8.1 it usually breaks the link to the original recovery process ( if you had one ), and does not leave you with 8.1 recovery media either.

The sensible thing is to create your own 8.1 recovery media before it gets deleted. Therefore, even if you did not start with 8.0 recovery media, you have the chance to create 8.1 recovery media.

    Is that clearer?

Ah, I see. You were talking about the upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1. So if someone did that with an OEM copy, I'm assuming they would be able to install using the method where you use a KMS key then enter your real key?

Hello RBV, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Was that the full error message?

What type (ex: retail, OEM, student, etc....) of product key are you entering?

Do you have a 3rd party AV or firewall program installed that may be blocking the internet connection for Windows8-Setup.exe? If so, double check to make sure that the file is on the program's safe/exception list.

    HI,
    Thanks Brink,
The message is "check your Internet connection and try again" I tried this more than 10 times by every time deleting c:ESD\Windows and APPDATA\blabla\blabla\webpage from PC.
I have a third party anti virus App. but I did disable the App and tried also.
one more thing I would like to add that First time I could down load the ISO file and made DVD as well as USB files, but when I tried to run the same Setup, it gives error " Your Autorun.dll in not working".
some more things also I would like to add are 1) earlier my store App was giving error message of "error code 80072f8f, after first time downloading .ISO file now my Store App. stuck on "Loading Store.... for 4 hours
    2) when I went for recovery with third option of refreshing the windows 8.1 Pro it use to stuck by error message " some files are missing and your window installation or back USB can provide the same". But now it give message the blabla file and app would required to download again and it went for refresh mode, then my PC got rebooted then it started updating file up to 3% and took more then 45 mnts and stopped with message that "it can not continue with refresh process and you have to re install windows again" when i did "ok" it undid the refreshed portion and restarted/rebooted PC to its position as it was last one. this thing happened 2 time.
pl see this can help you to resolve the issue.
my pc is sony make VPCL148FG
    regards
