Any ideas to fix this? I've tried multiple computers with the same key, and all the computers are getting this same error.
    Same!
    Hmm ok.

What type of key are you guys using?

It's not one for Media Center packs from Add Features is it?

Are you guys using a proxy, or having any issues with the other .exe's?

So using a friends Windows 8 key started the DL process for the Windows 8 ISO. Looks like Microsoft blocked my CD key... Wow.

To further answer questions, it's a retail key, 8 Pro. Must have attempted the install too many times last night.

    SUCCESS!
Two things: - I think my key was blocked as well, had to use my daughters,
    - stopping the 'Setup.exe' at 0% is key
(still a stupid way of going about it, why can't MS just offer it straight up!?)

Good. Just a blocked/bad key issue.

It's blocking me too. Interestingly, if I take the WebSetup folder (from the time it worked) from out of the recycle bin and restore it, I am able to start the download. I decided to zip up that folder and back it up for future use.

Edit: Also, these programs accept KMS keys but give the "can't connect right now" error.

Just downloaded the 8.1 ISO. Is this the full install and update 1 of Windows 8.1? Do I use my 8 key to install? On my PC I have Ver. 6.3.9600.17041. I looked at the ver. of setup.exe on the DVD that I made with the download and it said ver. 6.3.9600.16384 dated 08/22/2013.

I just downloaded the 8.1 ISO and the setup.exe on the DVD is also 6.3.9600.16384, checking the file downloaded in the ESD/windows folder and the setup.exe is 6.3.9600.16384. Could this be because I used the UK link from the Tutuorial, I also used my own windowssetupbox.exe file

I downloaded 8.1 Pro yesterday using one of my TechNet 8.1 Pro keys. I did a clean install on my wife's Acer laptop last night. As Brink said, It now includes update 1.

    Hey Clint,

Yep, all Windows 8.1 downloads will be for the Windows 8.1 Update ISO now.

If you only have a retail Windows 8 product key, then you would use a generic key to install Windows 8.1 Update with. When Windows 8.1 Update is finished installing, you would then change the product key to your Windows 8 key to activate it with.

    Brink,

I followed your Tutorial and downloaded the 8.1 Update 3 times this morning and the setup.exe is always Version 6.3.9600.16384 (3,284,864KB). The original 8.1 (non-update) was also Version 6.3.9600.16384 but it was a slightly smaller file (3,218,304KB). Is it right for the 8.1 Update to show the same file version of the setup.exe or am I somehow downloading the original 8.1?

If MS had called the new update 8.2 it would've made things a bit less confusing
