    1. Will the 8.1 ISO work as a repair disk?

    2. Is it legal for me to install my original 8 on another partition so to dual boot with 8.1? So often I want to help those with 8 problems and would like it to reference with.
    Hey Tony,

Q1) Yes, you could clean install 8.1 with a generic key, then change the product key to your Windows 8 key to activate with.
Q2) Sorry, but no since a product key can only legally be activated on one installation at the same time, and all other activated installations with the same key deleted.

    Thanks Shawn!

Unfortunate for me on the 8 edition. Does this make my 8.1 a system builders edition then?

I haven't tried it with a system builders key, but should work the same as with a retail key.

My 8 System Builders key was rejected.

Is this > %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup > actually > C:\Users\Tony\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebSetup? I have this folder but not C:\ESD\Windows as seen below. So I must delete the WebSetup folder?

Another thing that dawned on me is that I purchased WMC, so therefore I have that key.

The procedure I take then is to delete the WebSetup folder, go through the steps of this tute, then do the WMC update, then W8 Update 1?

I have to admit > They sure complicated this, although I think they want to cut down on piracy. It was a whole lot easier when the files sat in an MS account waiting to be downloaded like I had with 7.

Well, it appears that a System Builders key will not work either then.

What did you use to install it the first time?

Thanks for the quick reply. The System Builders cd I bought.

You'll need to use it instead, and do a clean install then.

Rant > MS really tripped me up on this one. Spent $110 for that cd. Had I known they would release 8.1 so soon I would have waited to purchase that. And now there's no ISOs available for the public. The whole thing stinks! < Rant over.

    Thanks for your help, Shawn.
