I was originally planning to use my USB drive without changing any settings in the BIOS.
(Sorry, I haven't read the posts in this thread, one of which probably answers my question.)
You don't need to turn secure boot off to install 8.1. I don't/haven't changed any of those settings on reinstalls of 8.1. You only need to turn secure boot off to install Windows 7 or Linux etc.
    Oh, I see. Thank you!

Could someone please help me. I'm on a Packard Bell EasyNote with Windows 8.1 preinstalled.
I have tried creating a usbstick using Rufus, but I just can't get it to show up in the boot selection menu!

I have activated the F12 option, so I can reach the boot options. All it ever sees it that Windows Boot Manager... dis/enabling secure boot does nothing. I haven't tried disabling the UEFI option since that would be counterproductive.

How...in the world.. can I have the computer boot my (UEFI) USB Flash drive?

Hello Aharu, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Where did you get the ISO file from?

Try another USB 2.0 port. Some systems are unable to boot from a USB port by default unless it has an option in it's UEFI firmware settings to allow it.

Hello MrSnipyCat, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Have you tried using OPTION ONE to create the USB with instead?

It's the most easiest and safest way to do so.

Excuse me for butting in :
It sounds to me like your ISO has both 64 Bit and 32 Bit versions therefor more than 4 GB? From your new volume label it appears you are installing win 7 sP1 Multi ?? If so down load a 64 bit version only?
