    Thanks, but I don't want a toolbar. I want a folder view in Explorer. Can anyone confirm that this no longer works?

    explorer shell:::{865e5e76-ad83-4dca-a109-50dc2113ce9a}

    If so, Microsoft broke it with a Windows update sometime between March and now.

    The following still works, but it's a flattened view of the Start Menu instead of a folder view:

    Applications {4234d49b-0245-4df3-b780-3893943456e1}

    Seeing as my Windows 10 in a VM is the same way, I'm guessing Microsoft broke it on purpose and decided to derp Windows 8.1 because why not?

    ETA: Now this is truly hilarious. While I can create a shortcut to "Applications", I am not allowed to pin it to File Explorer Favorites as I've been doing with my "Programs Folder and Fast Items" shortcut.

    Another alternative is to use the two Start Menu folders themselves.

    Your user start menu folder is
    C:\Users\(YourUserName)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    And the all-users start menu folder is
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    Everything that was in the Programs Folder is in one of these two folders. (In fact, the Programs Folder WAS just a combination of these two.) They don't have CLSID's, but you can create shortcuts to them in the usual way, since they're REAL folders (not "generated" ones like the Programs Folder). You have to turn on the "show hidden folders" option to reach them, but as soon as you've made the shortcuts you can turn it off again.

    Good idea. I created a library so I can view both at the same time. Wow, after 7 years, I finally found a use for libraries.

    Aside: I've also been creating an AppData shortcut under File Explorer Favorites since Windows 7, as there are occasions when I need to deal with data hidden within. This is very easy in Windows 7 and 8.1; I type the location of the folder into the address bar, Windows displays its contents even though it's hidden, and I drag the folder icon from the address bar to the Favorites list to create the shortcut. It works the same in my Windows 10 VM, except the drag and drop appears to have no effect. Actually, it does create the shortcut, but Windows 10 transfers the hidden state of the folder to the shortcut and doesn't show the shortcut, which is less than helpful. You might expect toggling the display of hidden files and folders would immediately update the Favorites (Quick Access in W10) list, but you'd be wrong. You have to open a new Explorer window for it to appear in the list. You might also think you could remove the Hidden flag from the shortcut properties, but you'd have to find the shortcut file first, because invoking Properties on the item in the list resolves to the AppData folder. It's amazing how many things can go newly wrong with something so simple that always worked before.
