Hello eyesonly, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, this tutorial is for doing a clean install of a Windows 8 upgrade copy on an empty hard drive (HDD/SSD).

Thanks for the quick response. I can get a upgrade copy 59 Euros.
Strange that Microsoft haven't fixed this 'problem'.
Why bother to by a full version?

Read the warning at the top of the tutorial. You must own a qualifying previous version of Windows to qualify for the upgrade copy of Windows 8.

I purchased Windows 8 pro upgrade during the Microsoft Offer.
I wish to know a "Clean Install" here means an install of the Windows 8 pro upgrade on a totally virgin (blank) hard disc, right?

For another case I want to know if a user had bought Win 8 Pro upgrade based on her Windows 7 Enterprise license (as far as I know windows doesn't allow Win 8 upgrade on enterprise license), is she allowed to use it as a clean install. Can windows block the serial?

Hello Prosenjeet, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, you will be able to do the clean install on a blank HDD.

Since Windows 7 Enterprise is a volume license and not retail, it would only qualify to upgrade to Windows 8 Enterprise. Windows 7 Enterprise doesn't qualify to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

Thanks for your quick reply. Appreciate that.

Though, if in the second case the user could upgrade her 7 Enterprise version to win8 pro...will MS be able to check that and block the serial

MS will not block either product keys. The user may just not be allowed to activate the Windows 8 Pro upgrade with the Windows 8 product key since Windows 7 Enterprise is a volume license and does not qualify for the Windows 8 Pro upgrade that has a retail product key.

In such a case, what should be adviced to her? buy Windows Home premium>install it then use the win 8 upgrade (and key) she purchased earlier?

In her case, she should by a System Builder copy of Windows 8 Pro instead of an upgrade copy. This way she will not need a qualifying OS since it's basically a full version.

    Little of topic:
I read somewhere that when you have the win 8 pro upgrade key and download win 8 pro RTM, they key you received with the upgrade version seems to work as a normal retail.

Do you know if this works Brink?
