"You've been signed in with a temporary profile"

Hello, I am running Windows 8 Pro on an HP Elite 64 bit-8gb ram.

Today, all of the sudden after restarting my computer, once I put my password (my admin password) it took me to a guest desktop. I have restarted multiple times and it does the same thing. But, when I go to "computer" I can view everything from my REAL desktop, so I know it wasn't wiped.

What did I do, and How do I fix it!? The account it is asking me to sign in with, is the same account I use every single day, only now it takes me into a guest profile. Since I know all of my files are safe, how do I actually log on as me to access all of that?

That is a vista forum I'm running 8. All of my info is there so I know it wasn't wiped.

It works for Windows 8 as well. Just be sure to back up anything that you do not want to lose first to be safe though.

You could also try doing a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this error to hopefully fix it.

I see you made a new tutorial for it, thanks a bunch - Happened to me again last night, that makes 3 times total with Windows 8 I got Temp Profile. I wonder why 8 is so susceptible to this error, even though it originated in XP, maybe even Windows 2000?

Yeah, since Windows 8 has a different way to go about doing things at boot, I thought it best to create a new refreshed one specifically for it.

I don't know. Windows 7 had this error quite a bit as well. My only guess is if people may be improperly trying to rename their user profile folder, or messing with other parts of the profile.
