Although compatibility mode exists to enable you to install and/or run software that wouldn't otherwise work, I don't recommend its use with anti-malware programs (AVs, Firewalls, etc).

As I nurse, my thought come to an analogy about malware and viruses in digital things with those in the nature.
In dealing with it, vaccines are important but I might say not everything. Let's say I have MSE in place, but the rest are depending upon how I do things with my computers. That's what I've been doing for years. It works for me.

The best free AV is of course the responsibility of the person clicking the mouse.
Can others exercise that responsibility & resist temptation?

The Norton 360 6.0 Beta should be running fantastic for you. MAKE sure to use the application to put it on a USB
dongle, and update the .dat so you can use it in an emergency. I found it also useful on my network too.

BitDefender 2012 does not work.

I have BitDefender 2012 Total Security. You just have to go to folder where its installed and set compatibility mode of Win7 and check 'Run as Administrator' to vsserv.exe

McAfee is just a watered down version of Norton AV/Security Suite. Use to be a day when it was the best out there.

Norton internet security 2012 fully compatible with W8 DP 8102

(if not mentioned before) also the language pack detection works too.
