Winows 7 or Windows 8

Which is better, in your personal opinion.

Hm - Windows 7 I have to say, it's the last really good OS Microsoft made, it was their reply to the thrashing Vista got and Windows 7 keeps the great stuff that Vista had and made it work RIGHT.

Between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, I choose Windows 8, i loathe and despise Windows 8.1, I don't consider it a true Windows OS.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
I think both are fine: I have 8 running on a new workstation and an old 2009 laptop just fine, and then there is 7 running on a re-purposed 2007 Mac Mini. All fine there too. Windows 8 seems faster and takes up a lot less HDD space than 7.

You should update your Mac Mini to Windows 8, and put 7 onto your Laptop, it's CAKE on a Mac. You will have to check the versions of Bootcamp for the right one for that system, they have dozens of Bootcamp versions. Sometimes, you have to just pick the drivers out of the Extracted Installer packages, because the overall package will not install, it will say "Not made for this Mac" even though it clearly has the right Drivers in it.

I run Win8.1 with Classic Shell and I feel this is a good compromise for me... It looks like win7, but runs much better, especially the file transfer utility...

Umm, what crapware?
Oh you know. Crapware like a smaller operating system disk space (8.1 is smaller than 8, 8 is smaller than 7) Crapware like sandboxed Internet explorer, Crapware like increased security. Crapware like improved performance. Crapware like Metro programs you don't even have to open - you know - that sort of thing.

I don't see any difference except that 8.1 is faster.
At the end of the day, all I have a Pc for is housing the software I need on a day to day basis.
If I just wanted games, weather, facebook etc, id buy a gamebox and a phone

Its all irrelevant

Exactly Sir (or Madam). It is faster. I don't care though. I have to use MS Project occasionally (no real alternative) and IBM Client Access (no alternative at all). If not for that I could just use telnet and a pen and paper and be happy. It might make the forums a bit dull though if that was all anyone wanted to do.

Agreed, the forums, not the forums .. who would write this comment if there was no forum?

Openproj is a free, open source? alternative to MS Project.

Windows 8 is better. It's faster and more secure. Getting used to it is hard, but it's nowhere near as hard as some people claim. They're just people that have problems accepting change. Windows 7 is the most overrated version of Windows, even more over-hyped than XP. I haven't noticed any advantage of Windows 7 over Vista SP2 to be honest. :)
